Happy New Year

Happy New Year from our family to yours!

I found this poem in the front of Mr. Burl's mother’s cookbook – she was Miss Jane to most everybody.  I never knew her, but Don remembers his "Maw-Maw" well and says she was always a kind, soft-spoken, and encouraging woman.  I've heard that same sentiment from many others who had her for a teacher in school or who just knew her socially or as a friend.  I know one thing - if this is the attitude she and others of her time took towards life, it's easy to see why the children they raised grew up to be the the generation we call the greatest.
This poem was written on the back of a copy of a church hymn.  I hung it on my refrigerator, because it is a good daily reminder to me of how to approach life.   There is so much negativity in the world, and it is easy to be drawn into it.  Hopefully, this simple little poem will be an inspiration to all of us to take the more positive path as we head into the New Year. ~ Ginger

For a Better World
More to improve, fewer to disapprove.
More doers, fewer talkers.
More to say, “It can be done,”
Fewer to explain why “it can’t be done.”
More to inspire others with confidence,
Fewer to throw cold water on anyone taking
Even one step in the right direction.
More to get into the thick of things and do something,
Fewer to sit on the sidelines and find fault.
More to point out what’s right with the world,
Fewer to keep harping on what’s wrong with the world.
More to be interested in “lighting candles,”
Fewer to blow them out.
More to accentuate the positive,
Fewer to emphasize the negative.
